The research has been conducted as per the exploratory study design whereby the reasons for the presence of the glass ceiling and the barriers for women in the corporate world were explored. The focus was on highlighting the presence of discriminating prejudice on part of the employers as well as of the senior management which has resulted in the presence of the glass ceiling. The research has employed primary as well as secondary research to explore the issue.
The primary research is based on a structured questionnaire which was sent out to professionally employed females in England, and by conducting interviews of five female in the banking, financial and the IT sector in the UK. The sampling frame of the IT and the banking sector was chosen as these are the exponentially growing sectors in the region, as per the current trends and the presence of women in these fields has been somewhat stunted. The paper therefore aims to explore the role played by the women in these sectors as well as the corporate world.
