Thomson (p.29) adds that Tennyson also uses his work to show us that no matter how educated and knowledgeable we are, we should be ready to let others take over form us in the various responsibilities that had been earlier bestowed upon us. He explains the importance of the virtue of trust that we should have in others.
At this point in the poem, Tennyson teaches a very important message; no matter how great a leader is, he must learn to live with the fact that his successor will not necessarily be of the same knowledge and educated as him or even greater. His successor may be less educated, and he must trust him to rise and also be great as time goes by.
