Up until recently intravenous drug usage has been leading in the transmission of HIV in New York City. This constituted to 47.6 percent of all cases among women. Substance abuse is very common also. Among women with HIV/AIDS, most of them have affected by substance abuse. Many care services are based on medications designed for the treatment of men.
Thus, there are very few treatment plans for women. There are very few residential programs for the women who are pregnant and at the same time face addiction issues. There are also very few places where HIV-positive women can obtain treatment and also at the same time get a place to stay with their children.
