Talking about networks, Nathan (2011) explains how the students create a network of friends amongst themselves in the universities. These students do not engage themselves in what the community does but rather place all their focus on what they would want to do in those small groups. They spend much of their time in these small groups and do not interact with other ethnic groups. This in the end results in very little diversification in the levels of interactions among these students.

Network can simply be defined as an association of individuals who have got similar interests which is created for the purpose of creating mutual assistance and availing helpful information to each of the members (Cohen & Reeve, 2005). Networks discourage interactions and thus limit the airing out of the different opinions by the different individuals. This is where the university as a social place comes in handy.
