Increasingly there is a trend towards parents sending their children to pre school courses and classes before the children commence their full time studies at the first grade level. Previously it was the responsibility of the parents, specially the mothers to educate and train the young children, however now families are seeking to enroll their young ones in preschool in order to prepare them for the first grade.
“Between 1995 and 2003, among those children not yet enrolled in kindergarten, the percentage of three- to five-year olds enrolled in full-time prekindergarten and preschool programs increased modestly from 22 percent to 28 percent. Conversely, the percentage that were not enrolled in any preschool program declined from 51 percent to 46 percent. The percentage of three- to five-year olds enrolled in part-day programs remained relatively stable and was at 27 percent in 2003” (‘Preschool and Prekindergarten Programs’, 2003).
