During September of the year 1976, a legislative provision named as the Hyde Amendment initiated in the House of Representatives by a Republican congressional representative named Henry Hyde was presented before the Supreme Court, and it restricted the using of federal funds to pay for abortions. The cases presented before the Supreme Court included the restriction of funding for non-therapeutic as well as therapeutic abortions.
The resultant was a victory for the pro-life supporters as the court declared such restricts as constitutional but if set free for states participating in Medicaid to pay for abortions that were medically apparent. Nevertheless, even though the Hyde Amendment was not a permanent law, it marked the first major success for the pro-life supporters (Tatalovich, Daynes, & Lowi, 2010).
